Future

Increasing Productivity

Project Overview

Using a case study as a baseline initiative, I was tasked with creating an app which incentives users to change their behavior to build better habits.

Problem

Many people, especially students, suffer from procrastination whether it’s a work task or household chore. A lack of routine structure can make it difficult for people to delegate time for specific tasks, especially when those tasks seem overwhelming. Neurodivergent individuals often feel the amplified effects of these practices and work best under pressure.

Case Study: Forest App

The forest app gamifies productivity by rewarding users who focus without interruptions for a pre-selected period of time. The app blocks all other phone notifications and pauses progress whenever the user exits the app. If the user completes the time period without exiting the app, they are rewarded with a tree to grow in their forest.

Insights

  • Users struggle to set up and start designated task.

  • Users are overwhelmed by the amount of work they have to do.

  • Users fail to properly estimate how long a task will take to complete.

Opportunities

  • Urge the user to begin tasks at a scheduled time.

  • Prioritize task hierarchy and scheduling to break the user’s workload into “bit sized” chunks.

  • Save assignment and collect data to predict future completion time and optimize scheduling.

 User Journey

Mapping the intended use case to explore how a digital application would initiate users to change their real-world behavior.

Wireframe

Establishing relevant functions and how the user might navigate to them.

New User Set-Up

User onboarding acknowledging privacy agreements and account set-up.
